WHY EVEN THE RIGHT-WING MEDIA, FOX NEWS IS ATTEMPTING TO WEIGH THE ODDS AGAINST NEWT
~ Proe Garphique
The reason is he terrifies them. Not for some irrational terror and not because he will in any way be a negative on the nation - he'll be a huge benefit as president which is something they know.
Newt said, correctly, “You can see it if you watch the television. The talking heads are terrified that I'm going to win because they understand I represent the end of the game.”
He's right. In fact, he's startlingly on-target. I'm in the media. I KNOW. All the media chess players are wringing their hands like mad. If Newt wins it will be without their help - and he will not bow to them - and that terrifies them that the kingmakers will be proven powerless and therefore irrelevant. It REALLY terrifies them.
You have seen the usual relationship between media interviewers and the typical candidate; the interviewer drives the conversation, establishes boundaries on any subject by way of the phrasing of the question, puts the candidate on defense or gives them a free ride, and you see the anxious determination on the part of the candidate to please the interviewer. In return for making the King, the media gets access to the most important decisions in the world and the prestige and power and money that generates. It's a symbiotic relationship which is great - except for the remaining 300 million Americans who do not ordinarily get to play in the game and are left to do the heavy lifting when things go wrong.
And then there's Newt.
When a media personality tries to box him in he stops the conversation and re-sets the course and won't allow the interviewer any power to stray or control the conversation. When a lie is told he stops the conversation, and instead of pathetically going on defense, Newt goes on offense and calls the interviewer out, often to the positively thunderous cheers of the audience - cheers which have rattled the media establishment to its very foundations. And as the media tries to diminish Newt he nevertheless stays on first or second nationally in a primary process certain to go on for months, while racking up endorsements of a group the media also hates: the Tea Party, which is driving this election, also without the media - which terrifies them.
But the people want the media to have less control, they want a conservative who can get the job done and after a bump in the road caused by Romney's ad blitz they are returning to the one candidate, most articulate, for whom effective solutions are not a problem or even a challenge, but an instinctive way of thinking, and the people returning to Newt.
Political and media Luddites be forewarned: Newt represents to politics what the industrial revolution did to the horse and wagon. And he's going to win.
